Group of Five: Ranking the 10 best players at 2021 midpoint
Best Group of Five Player No. 4: Javon Solomon, Troy DE
Freshman Javon Solomon has been on an absolute tear this season, recording 7.5 sacks— more than any other college football player. Solomon plays extremely hard and is quick off the snap, recording 12 total tackles for a loss. He’s also snagged an interception and recovered two fumbles. The 6’2” 246 lb defensive force is going to be a lot of fun to watch the rest of the season, especially when he’ll have a chance to make our No. 3 player’s day extremely difficult on Oct. 28.
Best Group of Five Player No. 3: Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina QB
Sophomore Grayson McCall doesn’t get the national recognition that he deserves, likely because they are often playing weeknight games (five total in 2021) and on alternate channels like ESPN2 and ESPNU. Nonetheless, McCall is having as good of a season as just about anyone in the country. The Indian Trail, North Carolina native is the most accurate QB in the country halfway through the season. McCall has an efficiency rating of 234.3 and is completing 79.8% of his passes. His 14 touchdown bombs have him tied for ninth-most in D-1 college football. Most importantly, he has the Chanticleers undefeated and ranked No. 15 in the AP Top 25.
