College Football Top 25: Recapping Week 6, previewing Week 7
By Mitch Kaiser
21. Texas A&M (4-2)
In what may have may been the biggest college football upset in years, the Aggies stunned Alabama in a game that no one saw coming. I’m still in shock about the result of this one.
If you play that game 99 more times, Alabama probably wins all 99 of them. But that doesn’t matter because they lost the only one that counts. I don’t know what got into the Aggies or what Jimbo Fisher said to his players but it worked. There is nothing that could’ve predicted this upset but I enjoyed watching every minute of it and that’s what makes college football so great is games like these.
Zach Calzada became Superman and had the game of his life against the toughest team he’s ever faced. Huge props to Calzada as he is only the second quarterback in three years to earn a PFF grade above 80 against the Crimson Tide. The other quarterback is a guy named Justin Fields who happens to be pretty decent in case you haven’t heard of him.
Texas A&M got out to a huge first-half lead and were lucky enough to hold onto it. I truthfully was never confident that they would hang on to win and even gave up the lead at one point. But two final huge drives in the fourth put the Aggies back on top including a game-winning field goal from Seth Small. Which reminds me if you haven’t seen the video of Small’s family during his game-winning field goal, drop everything and go look it up right now. That video straight up gave me goosebumps.
Next game: vs. Missouri
My prediction: Win 37-24
22. NC State (4-1)
NC State was off this weekend so not much to talk about on their end. The Wolfpack are currently the second-ranked team in the ACC and have a great opportunity to win the whole conference. But they’ll have to capitalize right away if they want to remain ranked as they travel to Boston College next week to take on a tough Eagles team who only has one loss. However, that one loss was to Clemson who NC State beat so the odds are in their favor.
Next game: vs. Boston College
My prediction: Lose 18-15
