Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from bounce-back win over Mississippi State
2. Will Rogers puts his courage on display
Mike Leach asks a lot out of his quarterbacks. They throw at an extremely high rate and often do not come close to balancing play calls with the rushing attack.
For tonight, Rogers had to deal with a shoulder injury in addition to the normal high volumed passing attack and dominant opponent. Rogers took a big hit late in the first quarter and immediately clutched the shoulder.
Rogers never let the injury take him off the field despite clearly laboring throughout the game. In terms of production, it was a night to forget. Rogers threw the ball 55 times and averaged just 5.5 yards per completion with three interceptions.
After visiting Vanderbilt, Mississippi State will have to endure a three-game stretch against Kentucky, Arkansas, and Auburn. For this crucial stretch they will need their QB healthy to rise up the ladder of the SEC West.
Nobody will be able to question the toughness of Will Rogers after tonight. But a serious question about his health looms with 6 more games to play.
