Nebraska football has the worst special teams unit in the country

It’s baffling that Nebraska continues to make the same mistakes over and over again, but this game played out in a similar fashion to Oklahoma. Nebraska lost that game by a touchdown but missed two field goals and an extra point.

But that wasn’t the first time the special teams cost Nebraska a game. In fact, you can attribute four of the five losses directly to special teams’ failures.

Against Illinois, there was the muffed punt inside the Huskers’ own five which set up Illinois with an easy touchdown and changed the complexion of the game.

Everyone can remember the disastrous punt against Michigan State. Nebraska led by seven and the punter kicked to the left side when the coverage was designed for the right. It led to an easy touchdown and eventually an overtime loss.

It’s the kind of thing you can’t make up, but it happens, inexplicably, over and over again.
