Takeaways for Virginia football:

After playing consecutive one-possession games, the Cavaliers took care of business this afternoon at Scott Stadium. This win was their most significant margin of victory since defeating VMI 49-0 in 2013 and their largest in the ACC since beating Miami 48-0 in 2007.

Today was Virginia’s most impressive defensive performance of the season so far. The Cavaliers forced four turnovers (two interceptions and two fumbles) in this game. Today’s win was critical for Virginia as they attempt to stay in the ACC Coastal hunt.

Virginia hosts Georgia Tech next Saturday.

Takeaways for Duke

The Blue Devils likely knew this was not going to be their day early in the game. Duke defensive back Jeremiah Lewis almost intercepted a pass by Brennan Armstrong that went through his hands and into the hands of Billy Kemp.

After going 3-1 in their non-conference games, the Blue Devils have lost three consecutive games. Duke made critical mistakes again, something that has plagued them in ACC play this season. Those mistakes turned into points for Virginia in this game, and the defense could not slow down the Cavaliers’ offense.

The loss keeps Duke winless in conference play and danger of a third consecutive losing season. The Blue Devils are off next week before traveling to Winston-Salem to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
