4. Mel Tucker, Michigan State HC

The one rumor that is already out there is that Mel Tucker is very high on the list of some very influential people at LSU:

Tucker has been down this road before while in Colorado. Michigan State pegged tucker after only one year in Boulder. Tucker has been in East Lansing for only two seasons. Would he do the same thing to the Spartans?

The short answer is yes. Michigan State’s ceiling is the College Football Playoff if everything goes Sparty’s way. The ceiling at LSU is a national championship. Tucker won’t be coaching “little brother” in Baton Rouge.

Tucker would be coaching the flagship university for the state. He’d be coaching at the only university that matters in Louisiana, for that matter. Coach Tucker has a reputation for being one of the best recruiters in the country.

Moreover, Tucker (while with Alabama and Georgia) was one of the best recruiters in the SEC. For all practicalities, Tucker would have Louisiana all to himself. LSU is one of the few fertile recruiting states with no in-state competition for recruits, and in-state recruits have little interest in going elsewhere.

Tucker to LSU makes a lot of sense if the Ohio native wants to win a national title.
