Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 2: Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss

Corral missed his biggest opportunity to win the Heisman Trophy when he struggled in a loss to Alabama. He didn’t struggle but he didn’t have a memorable game and the Rebels got stomped.

Since then, there have been some developments. Young and Alabama lost to Texas A&M, which seemed to open the door for Corral, who helped the Rebels beat a ranked Arkansas team on a late touchdown pass on the very same day.

Then,  Corral had another big day in Knoxville last week. He threw for 231 yards, as well as two touchdowns (one interception) but he also ran for 195 yards — yes 195.

He was sacked five times and still, thanks to his 30 total attempts, ran for 195 yards — with a long of 32 — to help Ole Miss, which still has one loss, avoid the upset.

The downside is that Corral was banged up and could miss today’s game against LSU.

It’s a big game for the Rebels and the Tigers, who are separating from Coach O, just beat Florida, should it should be competitive, and hopefully, for his sake, Corral can go.
