College Football Week 9: Saturday evening

Penn State at Ohio State, 7:30 PM EST, ABC

From 7 PM EST to 7:30 PM EST, there are about 4-5 games that you are going to want to keep an eye on and frankly, if you can pull off two televisions in your living room, it’s time.

The Buckeyes will host Penn State in a top-20 matchup with plenty on the line for both. After an early-season loss to Oregon, Ohio State has found its footing behind surging Heisman candidate C.J. Stroud and its undefeated in the Big Ten.

Penn State has lost two in a row after the nine-OT loss to Illinois and the season is hanging by a thread. If Penn State won out, beating OSU, Michigan, and Michigan State, it could possibly still win the Big Ten East, but that’s a huge ask and right now, the Nittany Lions just need a win.

Ole Miss at Auburn, 7 PM EST, ESPN

Another Heisman candidate, Matt Corral will lead 10th-ranked Ole Miss into Jordan-Hare hoping to keep pace in the SEC West division.

The Rebels need to win out and hope someone like Auburn can upset Alabama in order to reach the SEC championship game. It’s possible though, however, don’t forget about Auburn. The Tigers are 2-1 in the SEC and basically control their own destiny.

My crystal ball tells me this will also be a more exciting game than Ohio State and Penn State, but the crystal ball isn’t always clear either.

Other games

Another interesting matchup is in the American as 19th-ranked SMU, which is still undefeated takes on one-loss Houston (ESPN2, 7 PM EST). Kentucky at Mississippi State (SEC Network, 7 PM EST) is also an under-the-radar game. Mississippi State did beat Texas A&M earlier this season so don’t expect an easy win for the Wildcats in Starkville.

And, Notre Dame will host North Carolina (NBC, 7:30 PM EST) and try to keep itself in the playoff conversation as well as the New Year’s Six.

The Irish don’t have many impressive opponents down the stretch and they could use an impressive win in primetime against a North Carolina team led by QB Sam Howell.
