Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 1: Kenneth Walker III, Michigan State

You just know a Heisman moment when you see one and while there wasn’t a particular touchdown that stands out, except maybe the 58-yarder, Walker’s 195-yard day against Michigan was the best performance of the season.

The Spartans would not have won that game without Walker and Michigan State certainly wouldn’t be 8-0 and on the doorstep of the College Football Playoff without him.

However, a running back hasn’t won the award since Derrick Henry and only two have three have won it in the past 21 years. Ron Dayne was the last Big Ten running back to do it so Walker will need a stellar finish.

He’s averaging 149 yards per game right now and if he keeps that pace up through the Big Ten title game, assuming the Spartans make it for this exercise, that would be 1,937 yards. He probably needs to hit that 2,000 number.

It just helps and he definitely needs to have a big game in a win over Ohio State. If he does those things and leads Michigan State to a Big Ten title, it will be hard to deny him the Heisman Trophy.
