Scott Frost’s time as Nebraska football head coach could be running short and here are the five best candidates to replace him and lead the Huskers.

Things haven’t worked out the way they were supposed to when Scott Frost was hired as Nebraska football head coach and he’s running out of time to fix it.

In fact, if Frost and the Huskers lose to Ohio State Saturday, it will the fifth consecutive season without going to a bowl game and the fourth in a row under Frost.

The numbers are just flat ugly. He’s 15-26 as head coach and in his fourth season, Nebraska football has won three consecutive games. Think about that.

Under Tom Osborne, Nebraska football never lost more than three games. Ever. And under Frost Nebraska can’t even put together a three-game winning streak.

Yes, he needed time to build it but in year four, the Huskers continue to make mistake after mistake which has been their downfall and no one is more responsible than Frost or his quarterback Adrian Martinez.

Martinez has started most of the games in the Frost era and while he, like his head coach, has shown promise, it’s clear that it’s just not going to work out and if Frost does return, he needs to do whatever possible to find a competent signal-caller in the portal.

But unless Frost is able to win a couple of games down the stretch or at least beat Iowa, it’s hard to see him returning. Can Nebraska really stomach a 3-9 season that it is staring directly in the face?

I wouldn’t think so and if AD Trev Alberts does start searching for a Scott Frost replacement soon, there are my top five candidates.
