Jay Norvell, HC Nevada

If Frost does get relieved of his duties, I strongly expect Jay Norvell’s name to be on the shortlist. It just makes too much sense.

Yes, Norvell was a former Iowa Hawkeye but he played in the Big Ten and that will help the Huskers in trying to recruit the Midwest. He’s also coached at Nebraska, as well as at places like Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona State, UCLA and now he’s the head coach at Nevada.

Norvell helped Zac Taylor win Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors and he’s done a great job with Carson Strong at Nevada right now. He’s in his fifth season coaching the Wolfpack and is 31-24 overall with four straight winning seasons after a 3-9 start.

Since he’s already been part of some success at Nebraska, he will know what’s expected and what needs to be done to get the program back on track.

Norvell might not necessarily be a “big” name but the Huskers just need to find a quality head coach, instead of worrying about winning the press conference.
