2. Florida at South Carolina

This is not how Florida saw their season playing out. After a close loss to Alabama in mid-September, the Gators would go on to lose three more including last week’s thumping at the hands of Georgia. Now at 4-4 and the temperature of Dan Mullen’s seat rising, the Gators really could use a win.

South Carolina’s season is playing out as expected. Not predicted to be a contender in the SEC East during Shane Beamer’s first season in Columbia, the Gamecocks are also 4-4. With games against struggling Florida, Missouri and even Clemson left on the schedule, the Gamecocks can make a push for bowl eligibility.

One thing making this matchup interesting is Florida’s turnover problem. The Gators have nine giveaways in their last three games. Against a team like Vanderbilt, no harm no foul. Against teams like LSU and Georgia, those turnovers were killers.

The Gamecocks are giving the ball away too much themselves, however, they are a plus two on the year. Winning the turnover battle is a must to give themselves a chance.

Before the season, this was a definite win on Florida’s schedule. Now it is a little murkier. The Gators still likely win, with the Gamecock offense being mostly stuck in neutral this season.

However, how invested are the Gators with the season spiraling? South Carolina could take advantage of the turmoil facing their opponent. The interest in this one is mainly to see if Mullen has lost his team or if the Gators can pick themselves up to salvage a respectable record.
