College Football Week 10: Michigan State, Oregon on upset alert
Two CFB Playoff contenders Michigan State and Oregon, are on very high upset alert heading into College Football’s Week 10.
What (should we) have learned in the seven previous seasons of the College Football Playoff?
Don’t overreact. Things will work themselves out on the field. Well, except for the Big 12 in 2014, but that’s for another time.
This year’s debut poll brought with it probably the least surprising number one of all time, as Georgia topped the poll. Alabama was somewhat surprising at number two, with Michigan State at three and Oregon rounding out what would be the Playoff field if the season ended today.
But the season’s not over. There is a full month of football to be played. And guess what? That means the upsets will be even bigger.
The College Football Playoff poll is the only one that truly matters. It’s the only one that has a direct impact on who plays where come late December and early January. On top of that, in November, we know what each team is for the most part. What we don’t know is who can handle the pressure.
Talk about pressure, you know the old cliche: it’s hard getting to the top, but even harder staying there.
Last week, teams on upset alert went 4-5, out first week of favorites under .500 in quite some time. Oklahoma, Ohio State, Utah, and Baylor all handled business. Michigan, Nebraska, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, and San Diego State (who you’ll be hearing from again very soon) all lost.
On the season, teams on upset alert are now 40-23. Can we have another strong week?
As usual, a disclaimer: these picks are not predictions unless stated as such.
