2. The best WR trio in the country resides in Columbus

Early on in this season against Oregon, the Ohio State receiving room made history within the program. For the first time in school history, the Buckeyes had three different receivers finish with 100+ receiving yards. For more context it took the school 131 years to accomplish this feat. It took the 2021 Buckeyes’ WR room just 2 more months to accomplish it again.

Here are the stat lines for each receiver:

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 9 catches, 139 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Garrett Wilson: 10 catches, 126 yards, 3 touchdowns
  • Chris Olave: 9 catches, 85 yards, 1 touchdown

Simply an outrageous day for these three players who are surely going to shift their focus to playing on Sunday’s in the near future. All these receivers have recorded 100+ yard games at least three times in 2021.

For Smith-Nijgba, he has put up an astonishing 24 catches for 379 yards and two touchdowns in the past two weeks. He has been a major problem for Big Ten defenses in the slot position. Smith-Njigba is electric after the catch, and displays strong hands on a consistent basis. He will have one more season to show these talents before he likely finds himself in the NFL.

Olave and Wilson have had their praises sung for 3 seasons now, and are honing their abilities in anticipation for next year’s draft. With how they are both playing throughout the season, don’t be surprised if both men find themselves selected in the top half of next year’s draft.
