No 2. Will a win over SMU be enough to catapult Cincinnati football into the College Football Playoffs?

The Bearcats are so close to the College football playoffs, yet so far. They’re undefeated at 10-0 and currently No. 5 in the CFB Playoff Rankings, but critics argue they only have one quality win and it’s not enough to get them into the Top-4.

Would a win against SMU, who was once ranked as high as number 19 in the AP Top-25 polls and enjoyed a ranking for five consecutive weeks, be enough to give Cincinnati a ticket into the Playoffs?

The CFB Playoff committee is all subjective, so it’s hard to say. It seems like a close win (or a loss) would not do the premiere Group of Five team any favors.

If Cincinnati wins in a dominating fashion—by say, 28+ points— is it enough? Maybe. Most people seem to be moving to the idea that the only way Cincinnati gets into the Playoffs is with some help from the inside (Top 4) and the teams behind them.

Cincinnati will be rooting for Alabama to lose another game and Michigan and Michigan State to lose another game.

Even then, is that enough? There are no guarantees in college football this season. It’ll create a ton of intrigue if the Bearcats win-out and get some help from another team or two.
