Heisman Trophy watch 2021: Top 4 contenders heading into Week 13
2021 Heisman Trophy Candidate No. 1: Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
C.J. Stroud has been on fire lately but let’s not forget that Bryce Young has been special too over the last five games.
Young has thrown at least two touchdown passes in every game this season which is pretty remarkable by itself but he also has seven 300-yard games and five games with at least four touchdown passes.
Last Saturday, he set Alabama’s single-game record for passing yards in a 551-yard effort that also included five touchdown passes to beat Arkansas. With 3,585 yards (6th) and 38 touchdown passes (4th), Young has 40 total scores with two on the ground.
He also has the last, best chance to impress Heisman voters. Stroud can impress with big games against Michigan and Wisconsin, or whoever wins the Big Ten West, but the Buckeyes are the heavy favorites to win both.
Alabama is going to be the underdog against Georgia and its incredible defense. Imagine Young has a great game against the Bulldogs and leads Bama to the SEC championship?
If that happens, and Young plays well, I feel like that will overshadow anything Stroud is able to do and in that scenario, I see Young bringing home the Heisman in what is shaping up to be one of the closest votes ever.
