CFP Rankings 2021, Top 10: Week 12 recap, previewing week 13
By Mitch Kaiser
9. Ole Miss (9-2)
Week 12 result: Defeated Texas Tech 23-0
Lane Kiffin and his Rebels have quietly worked their way back into the top 10. They still only have two losses on the year which is pretty impressive when you’re in the SEC.
A 14-point win against Vanderbilt on Saturday doesn’t look all that great, but I don’t think they’re too worried about style points this far into the season.
Ole Miss is one of the most improved defenses of the season compared to last year and they showed that again in this game. Lane Kiffin has to be happy about how his defense turned out this season. He will for sure hope to carry that success into next year, too.
The main storyline of this game was that it was Matt Corral’s final home game for the Rebels. He has had such a great career at Ole Miss and shined on his senior night. Throwing for 326 yards and two touchdowns on 75 percent completion rate, this was good enough to get Corral a 73.5 PFF passing grade.
Ole Miss has a quick turnaround and plays this Thursday already on Thanksgiving night. It is their big rivalry showdown against Mississippi State for the Egg Bowl. The Rebels are surprisingly the underdog for this game but we will see how it plays out.
Next game: vs. Mississippi State
My prediction: Win 28-24
