Alabama Football: 3 Takeaways from the Iron Bowl
By Dante Pryor
3. Did we witness Bryce Young’s Heisman moment?
Late in the fourth quarter, Auburn punter Oscar Chapman pins the Crimson Tide on the three-yard line with 1:32 left in the fourth quarter and no timeouts left. Young threw from his endzone and completed a pass to John Metchie III for 22 yards and a first down.
No longer in the shadow of his endzone, Young continues to work and move the football down the field, converting a critical fourth down to tight end Jaleel Billingsley. That conversion put the ball inside the 30.
Head coach Nick Saban wanted to know who would step up and make a play. It was wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks, with the 28-yard touchdown catch on third down for Alabama’s first touchdown of the game, sending it into overtime.
In the overtime period, Bryce Young connected with Slade Bolden for the touchdown. After Auburn ties the game, Young hits Metchie for the two-point conversion. Auburn matches one last time, and it was Young to Metchie for the game-winner.
With C.J. Stroud losing to Michigan, Young might be the Heisman front runner.
