Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 14. Ron Dayne

  • 1999 College stats: 2,034 rushing yards, 20 rushing touchdowns
  • Worst game: 80 rushing yards

Good luck stopping Ron Dayne when he suited up for the University of Wisconsin.

From the moment he stepped foot onto a college turf, he was unbelievably productive. His numbers, in all honesty, don’t even appear real. But after looking over and over at his stats, we can confirm that the numbers we are about to rattle off are actually very much true.

In Dayne’s first season, he rushed for 2,109 yards. In his next two seasons, he rushed for 1,457 yards and 1,525 yards respectively. In 1999, his final season, he chugged the rock for 2,034 yards. Also, Dayne never had a season in which he rushed for less than 15 touchdowns.

For as great as he was practically every time on the field, he struggled big-time during a game against Minnesota. Somehow, the Golden Gophers limited Dayne to just 80 rushing yards, despite receiving the rock 25 times.

In the end, Dayne still took home the Heisman Trophy that season, but Minnesota showed the college football world that he wasn’t unstoppable.
