Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 12. Carson Palmer

  • 2002 Season stats: 3,942 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, 10 interceptions
  • Worst game: 186 passing yards, 1 touchdown

Not that long ago, USC was considered a powerhouse of a school. The Trojans were a constant staple near the top of the charts and were legit National Championship contenders. One of the main reasons that they were so good, especially in the early 2000s, is because of quarterback Carson Palmer.

In 2002, in particular, Palmer had USC rolling. The Trojans finished the year with a record of 11-2, including going on an eight-game win streak to finish the year.

Palmer received all of the praise in the world for the season he had by winning the Heisman. No one could argue against him winning the award. He threw for 3,942 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. But man oh man did he stink up the joint during a game against Kansas State.

Not only did USC lose by seven points, but Palmer was pretty much the reason why they came up short. He completed just 18 of 46 passes for 186 yards, and only one touchdown.
