Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 11. Archie Griffin

  • 1975 Season stats: 1,450 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns
  • Worst game: 46 rushing yards

No matter how much time passes by, running back Archie Griffin will always be considered one of the best in college football history. His 5,589 rushing yards rank 10th in NCAA history and third in Big Ten history.

More times than not, the best way for Ohio State to win games was for Griffin to chug the rock a whole lot. In his final three seasons, that’s exactly what he did as he never rushed for anything less than 1,400 yards.

After leading Ohio State to an 11-1 season in 1975, Griffin took home the Heisman Trophy. And while he was pretty unstoppable for most of the year, he was downright awful during a close-ball game against Michigan.

In the end, Ohio State eked out the victory but with only 46 yards on 19 carries and 13 yards on three catches, they won in spite of Griffin for a change, not because of him.
