Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 9. Jameis Winston

  • 2013 College stats: 4,057 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, 10 interceptions
  • Worst game: 159 passing yards,

Florida State hasn’t enjoyed a ton of success over the past few years on the college football field. But in 2013, with quarterback Jameis Winston, no one could keep them out of the spotlight.

Undefeated records in college football don’t grow on trees but Winston was able to navigate the Seminoles to a 14-0 record. You were fooling yourself if you believed anyone other than Winston deserved to win the Heisman that season.

His year came to an end after racking up over 4,000 passing yards while completing 66.9% of his passes. Winston was a touchdown throwing machine, putting up 40 that season against only 10 picks.

As for his worst game of the year, that came against Wake Forrest. On paper, you can look at the box score and think there was absolutely no struggle. However, look past the 56 point win. We know, 56 points, that’s a lot. But on his own, Winston had a ton of issues. He threw for only 159 yards on 28 attempts.

Could Winston have turned things around if Wake made things even remotely close? Maybe. But once they were up by about two million points, there was no need for Winston to chuck it down the field all game long.
