Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 3. Mark Ingram

  • 2009 Season stats: 1,658 rushing yards, 17 touchdowns
  • Worst game: 30 rushing yards, 0 touchdowns

The 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide are criminally underrated. Truth be told, the argument could be made that they deserve to be in the conversation as the best college football team of all time.

With a 14-0 record and a ton of blowout wins, it was practically impossible to see Alabama in a close game. That said, they had their hands full with Auburn at the tail end of the season. And while they still went on to win the game, their Heisman Trophy winning running back played by far his worst game of the season.

Mark Ingram had only one style of running. He didn’t try to pull out any spin moves and avoid contact. No, he normally ran right over defenders. Yet, once he lined up against the defensive players of Auburn, they threw him face first into the dirt time and time again.

Even with 16 carries, Ingram rushed for only 30 yards, less than two per carry. He also failed to bang his head on the goalpost.

Luckily for Ingram, Heisman voters didn’t hold it against him too much. But, with one of the best running backs in recent memory looking absolutely terrible, he should feel like lucky that Alabama went undefeated that season.
