Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 2. Doug Flutie

  • 1984 Season stats: 3,454 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, 11 interceptions
  • Worst game: 136 passing yards, 0 touchdowns

It took four years for Doug Flutie to break through the Heisman Trophy wall but in his final season at Boston College, he finally pulled it off. Officially, Flutie nabbed college football’s most prestigious award on the back of throwing for 3,454 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while leading his squad to a 10-2 record.

For the most part, every defensive coordinator struggled with Flutie all year long. However, when they matched up against Syracuse, Flutie was downright awful. During the game, the former 1984 Heisman winner completed only 10 of his 21 passes for 136 yards.

Even without Flutie throwing a single touchdown during the game, Boston College managed to score 24 points. That said, considering how bad he was, Flutie almost cost them the game as he threw an awful interception and simply couldn’t get much of anything going all game long.
