Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 18. Marcus Mariota

  • 2014 College stats: 4,454 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, 4 interceptions
  • Worst game: 258 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interceptions

It wasn’t the worst game in the world but considering how he sliced and diced the competition for much of the year, quarterback Marcus Mariota had seen better days.

About halfway through the 2014 season, Mariota threw for 258 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in a game against Stanford. In the end, the Oregon Ducks took care of business in front of their home fans, blowing out Stanford by 29 points. Still, while it wasn’t a horrible game so to speak, Mariota was on another level against just about everyone else that he played that season.

He wrapped up a 2014 Heisman Trophy winning season with 4,454 yards, and completed 68.3% of his passes. Also, even more impressively, the Heisman winner threw 42 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Considering that the matchup against Stanford was one of the games in which he threw an interception, we have to put it as one of his more nonimpressive games.
