3. Freeman is one of the top defensive minds in the nation

This has been true since his days at Cincinnati, but Marcus Freeman is one of the most well-respected defensive coaches in the country and that is quite an accomplishment at age 35.

During their run of the last three seasons, Freeman had Cincinnati performing as one of the top units in the country. Freeman also has coached and developed several guys who will be draft picks in the NFL for next season at Cincinnati. Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell will get a lot of deserving credit, but Freeman deserves his fair share.

Notre Dame had a strong defense in 2020 under the previous coordinator Clark Lea and Freeman continued that success. The Fighting Irish have improved on defense since a tough opening game against Florida State and are playing like one of the best defenses in the country.

Notre Dame should keep up their strong defensive play under Freeman at the very least.
