1. Continuity

If you take a look at what is happening at Oklahoma after the wake of Lincoln Riley choosing to leave for the USC job, that could be a reason Notre Dame moved quickly to hire Marcus Freeman.

Oklahoma has had a mass exodus of coaches and recruits leaving the program and is in the middle of a chaotic coaching search. Notre Dame did not seem like it wanted to start over from scratch with a new coach and have to potentially lose a top-five class for next season.

Now, this can also be a risky move for continuity’s sake. Freeman might not be ready for a job like Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish could have made a mistake by not waiting for a coach like Luke Fickell or Iowa State’s Matt Campbell. However, I think this was the right move for the Fighting Irish and will work out for the football program.
