. . Gators . 2. team. 840.

*Note: Billy Napier has been named the next head coach

National Titles: 3
Home Stadium: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (88,548)
Heisman Trophy Winners: 3

Advantages

The state of Florida is arguably the most fertile recruiting state in all of college football. Neither Miami nor Florida State are setting the world on fire recruiting the state either. Billy Napier, the new head coach in Gainsville, has an opportunity to claim the state for the Gators.

Napier has signed with Florida at the right time as well. The Gators are building a new football-only facility which should be ready by spring of 2022. The completion of the facility will help with the Gators’ attempts to reclaim recruiting in the state.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium a.k.a “The Swamp” is one of the best home-field advantages in the SEC when the Gators are good. The noise is deafening when the fans get loud.

There is also synergy between the AD and president with the vision of being a national power once again in football.

Disadvantages

The Gators are behind Georiga. Florida trails the Bulldogs in facilities, resources, and recruiting. Both Alabama and Georgia have beat out the Gators for the state’s best recruits. Many of the upgrades to facilities in Gainsville are over a decade overdue.

Spurrier never asked for many resources and Urban Meyer did not have to. A head coach can’t go to Gainsville and recruit to Florida just because they are the University of Florida. The competition is years ahead of them right now.

There has not been a “we have to beat Georgia at everything” mindset in Gainsville in a long time. On the other hand, there is a “we have to beat Florida at everything” mindset in Athens, Georgia.

Will Florida fans be patient enough for these changes to take place?
