College Football 2021: Ranking the notable Power Five job openings
By Dante Pryor
*Note: Sonny Dykes has been hired as head coach
National Titles: 2
Home Stadium: Amon G. Carter Stadium (45,000)
Heisman Trophy Winners: 1
Advantages
TCU is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex which is one of the best local recruiting grounds in the country. The Horned Frogs have established themselves as one of the better developmental programs in the country.
Former head coach Gary Patterson might be the best advantage the Horned Frogs have. Patterson oversaw two upgrades of Amon G. Carter Stadium and the construction of an indoor practice facility. TCU has upgraded the weight room and football-only facilities during Patterson’s tenure.
Many of the upgrades the TCU made to the football and athletic facilities Patterson oversaw. These will play well when recruiting to the new Big 12.
Disadvantages
Perception could be the disadvantage at TCU. The Horned Frogs are not seen as a national power despite the recruiting base and the fact that they are in the Big 12. That could come from being a Group of Five School before moving up to the Big 12.
TCU is not a large school with just over 10,000 undergraduate students. It is one of the smaller programs in the Power Five. Though the football team has resources, it is not on par with Texas or Texas A&M.
Coaches have won at TCU, but it would be difficult to win a national title in Fort Worth.
