ACC Football Power Rankings 2021: Pitt reigns supreme in final edition
By Dante Pryor
The Demon Deacons are in the midst of the best season in school history. Head coach Dave Clawson led the Deacons to their second ten-win season in school history and an appearance in the ACC championship game; their first appearance since winning the ACC in 2006.
Quarterback Sam Hartman was one of the three best quarterbacks in the ACC this season. Wide receivers A.T. Perry and Jaquarii Roberson were the best receiver duo in the conference. This season, their defense was the Achilles’ heel, especially in the conference title game.
This year is Pittsburgh’s best season since Tony Dorsett’s Heisman Trophy and their national title season of 1976. Kenny Pickett has rewritten the Panthers’ passing record books, breaking Dan Marino’s passing records.
This season culminated in Pittsburgh’s first ACC championship and their first conference title since 2016. If there is one criticism of the Panthers this season, it is that 44-41 head-scratcher of a loss to Western Michigan. If the Panthers win that game, who knows what would have been this season?
Instead, the Panthers will take on the Michigan State Spartans in the Chic-fil-A Peach Bowl in a clash of two-loss teams. This year, Kenny Pickett gets one of the worst pass offenses in college football. It should be a good one.
