Perfect fits for Spencer Rattler, Quinn Ewers and top transfer portal QBs
Spencer Rattler to Oregon
It’s tough to decide who the biggest fish is in terms of transfer portal quarterbacks in 2022 and while Ewers is probably the best long-term prospect, the best guy for next season is probably Spencer Rattler, the former Oklahoma quarterback.
Rattler opened the season as the Heisman favorite and the former five-star recruit in his own right was expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
But things didn’t quite go as expected. To be fair, Rattler was better than most quarterbacks, but he wasn’t good enough to fend off Caleb Williams, the top signal-caller in 2021.
Rattler could have gone to the draft and taken his chances but instead, he went to the transfer portal and is hoping to revive his career and his draft stock.
The 6-foot-1 quarterback had five interceptions last season but completed 72 percent of his throws and had 11 scores. He also threw 28 touchdowns in 2020 while leading Oklahoma to a Big 12 championship and a New Year’s Six bowl win over Florida.
Rattler has a crystal ball projection to UCLA but with Chip Kelly and Oregon talking about a reunion, I wonder if a transfer to Oregon could be in the cards?
The Ducks have Tyler Thompson, a top-40 quarterback from 2021 in their own right. But he hasn’t played much and could use more seasoning. Plus, Rattler is a one-year guy. And if Chip could get him to UCLA, then surely he could recruit him to Oregon if he returns to Eugene as head coach.
Nebraska makes sense, as does LSU. But Rattler is a west-coast kid and playing at Oregon would allow him to potentially square off with Lincoln Riley, his former head coach.
