The best performances of the past 25 Heisman Trophy winners: 19. Robert Griffin III

Haters of Robert Griffin III will point to his poor injury-filled NFL career as a way to validate their thoughts on him. Sure, expectations were sky-high for RG3 at the next level, and sure, he fell woefully short but let’s not forget, when he was healthy, like he was during most of his time in college, he was great.

Baylor never produced a Heisman Trophy winner before him and they haven’t produced one after.

In 2011, defensive coordinators pulled out their hair and lost a ton of sleep trying to come up with a game plan to stop him. Nothing worked.

RG3 finished the year by completing 72.4% of his passes, threw for 4,293 yards, 37 touchdowns, and six interceptions. We also can’t forget about his legs as he rushed for 699 yards and 19 touchdowns.

In terms of which game was his best during his Heisman season, we have to go with his midseason showdown against Texas, a program Baylor failed to beat before RG3 came to town. Ultimately, he led them over that hump thanks to a monster performance. He ended the game with 479 yards and four touchdowns. RG3 also ran for 72 yards.

Remember, Baylor had never beaten Texas before this matchup took place. The win for Baylor wasn’t just a big-time feather in the cap of Griffin but it made everyone take their program seriously.
