With four five-star commitments already in the fold, Jimbo Fisher is redefining recruiting for Texas A&M football for years to come.

Texas A&M football has been on a hot streak on the recruiting front in recent weeks, but trends point towards this run of blue-chip commitments being more than a flash in the pan. In fact, what Jimbo Fisher has done in College Station represents a step-change for the talent profile of the Aggies’ program.

Starting with the 2000 class and running through Fisher’s 2018 transition class, Texas A&M signed 11 five-star recruits. Those 11, spread out over 19 classes, represent one five-star player roughly every other season. The reality is many of those came under a brief period under Kevin Sumlin, who signed six five-stars between the 2014 and 2015 classes combined.

That’s a good start, but it pales in comparison to the troves of top-tier talent being brought in by the likes of Alabama, Georgie, and Ohio State. Until now.

The Early Signing Period begins Wednesday, Dec. 15. Texas A&M is expecting to add to their haul between now and then, but even if they stood pat, their current 2022 class will be historic. Texas A&M has the No. 3 class nationally with four commitments from five-star players. That’s the most five-star commits of any program in the country.

Those four five-stars, combined with the five additional five-star signees from the Fisher’s prior three classes give his Aggies nine five-star additions in the span of four classes. Nine five-stars in four years. That’s a lot different than 11 five-stars in a 19-year span.

The simple reality is this: Fisher has doubled Texas A&M’s access to top-tier talent. When the 2022 class is finalized, he’ll have signed a top-seven recruiting class in four consecutive seasons. Texas A&M has two finishes in the top 10 in program history prior to Fisher’s arrival.

It’s a new day for Texas A&M Football. And that new day is flush with five-star talent.
