Why Quinn Ewers can lead Texas Football back to glory
A perfect marriage
Sark’s first season as Texas head football coach didn’t necessarily go as planned. I’m certain he wasn’t expecting to be home for the holidays after a 5-7 season.
The Longhorns were expected to make a bowl game and after a narrow loss against Oklahoma, they looked like one of the better teams in the Big 12.
Of course, there was a lot of underachieving. But it was the first season and coaches tend to get a pass. However, five straight losses will stick with a fanbase, especially one with such high expectations.
While Sark can’t change what happened last season, he could avoid a similar loss on the recruiting trail, and missing out on Ewers would not have been good, especially if Texas Tech or TCU had been able to win his commitment.
But Texas football hosted the five-star QB this weekend and with Sarkisian’s past of developing NFL quality quarterbacks, most recently Mac Jones, it seemed like a perfect fit or a match made in heaven as they might say.
Sarkisian better hope it’s true because if not, he’s going to be out of a job. He needs Ewers to win big and Ewers needs Sark to help him become the quarterback he wants to be. They can help each other and Texas football along the way.
And now, with Lincoln Riley in Los Angeles and the Horns having as talented a quarterback as anyone in the Big 12, it’s game on meaning Big 12 title or bust in Austin.
