Blake Anderson has been one of the best coaches in college football this season

In his first season as the head coach of Utah State, Blake Anderson took a team that was 1-5 last season to finishing the 2021 season with a regular-season record of 10-3.

Anderson does not get near the recognition that he deserves, despite bringing this team out of the basement of the MWC and winning the conference championship in year one of his tenure.

The former Arkansas State head coach will extend his streak to appearing in a bowl game in seven of his past eight seasons as a head coach.

Anderson will meet a formidable coach in Oregon State’s Jonathan Smith. The Beavers’ coach has been incrementally seeing improvement, save for last year’s shortened Covid-19 season.

Smith took over as Beavers Head Coach in 2018, finishing 2-10, then went 5-7 in 2019 and finished this season 7-5. It’s the first time Oregon State has won seven or more games since 2013.

Blake Anderson (a former wideout for Colorado in the late ’90s) vs Jonathan Smith (a former QB for Oregon State in the early 2000s) will be an intriguing chess match that will feature a ton of offense.

These two offensive-minded coaches guided their teams to scoring 32+ points per game and more than 430 yards of offense per game each.
