LSU Football: 3 early signees who’ll have instant impacts in 2022
Since Joe Burrow won the national championship and Heisman Trophy in 2019, LSU has had inconsistent quarterback play.
Myles Brennan got off to a good start in 2020, but he has not been able to stay healthy. Max Johnson was the starter for the team in the latter half of 2020 and for 2021, but he has since transferred to SEC West rival Texas A&M.
Brennan entered the transfer portal, but withdrew his name and is returning to Baton Rouge.
Enter Walker Howard, the five-star quarterback that just signed with LSU last week. He’s a big-time prospect at the position and has a chance to start right away for the Tigers. Howard possesses a big arm and has shown great short to intermediate accuracy as well.
Brennan probably has the inside track to the job, but he has a lot to prove in terms of his health and performance. Howard is the more talented of the two and could give Kelly a quarterback to build around early in his tenure at LSU.
