Houston was the best Group of Five team outside of Cincinnati this season

The Cougars had an incredible season. They lost their very first game of the season, a home game against Texas Tech, but never looked back after that.

They went on an 11-game winning streak and made it to the AAC Championship game against Cincinnati. That streak included wins over four bowl-bound teams like SMU, East Carolina, Memphis, and Tulsa.

Houston has competed in a bowl game in each season since the formation of the American Conference (save for a four-win season in 2019).

This season, Houston is allowing fewer than 300 yards per game by opposing offenses. They’ll be looking to push Auburn on defense especially since they are without starting QB Bo Nix, who just recently announced his transfer to Oregon.

Houston will use their balanced attack, led by QB Clayton Tune (3,263 passing yards and 28 TDs) and running backs Alton McCaskill (883 rushing yards and 16 TDs) and Ta’Zhawn Henry (526 yards and 7 TDs) to wear down Auburn’s defense.
