23. Purdue

If total attendance was the only thing that we used to calculate the list of top college football fanbases in 2021, it wouldn’t even be worth doing.

Purdue actually has an underrated fanbase and the Boilermakers also had an underrated football team in 2021, one that knocked off both Iowa and Michigan State (when they were undefeated).

Jeff Brohm has started to build something at Purdue and he’s churning out some really good players and the fans are starting to pay attention.

When it comes to basketball, Indiana has always been the big-time school in the state, and Purdue football wasn’t anything special until outside of some really good quarterbacks and of course, Joe Tiller, who changed everything.

But it has taken time to rebuild the Boilermakers and now, Purdue seems like a program ready to contend in the Big Ten West and not just once every few years.

Purdue was also one of the top-10 teams in all of college football in terms of having its stadium filled to capacity. It was eighth in the nation and third in the Big Ten, behind only Penn State and Michigan.

Plus when you throw in the crowd noise from some of those home games in 2021, the Boilermakers’ inclusion on this list is an easy argument to make.
