18. Michigan State

One program that made a big leap in the college football fanbase rankings, as well as the actual College Football Playoff rankings was Michigan State.

The Spartans were in contention for the playoff before a loss to Ohio State eliminated them and Kenneth Walker was also in the midst of the Heisman race for much of the year.

While he didn’t get an invite to New York, the Spartans were stellar this season and will get a chance to cap things off with a Peach Bowl win, without Walker.

MSU fans will surely flock to the Peach Bowl for the Spartans’ first major bowl game since the 2015 Cotton Bowl. Michigan State fans did their best to pack Spartan Stadium each Saturday and that’s maybe one reason MSU didn’t suffer a home loss in 2021.

Michigan State was the only team to beat Michigan during the regular season and did so in front of a raucous crowd.

Tucker has awoken something in East Lansing and the Michigan-MSU rivalry will be even more hotly contested over the next few years.
