Top 3 transfer portal targets for Nebraska Football in 2022

I know, I just said Nebraska football needed Casey Thompson and Thompson should be the top target for the Huskers in the transfer portal but No. 2 should be Chubba Purdy.

One of the biggest reasons Frost hasn’t led the Huskers to six wins and a bowl game is a lack of consistency and depth at the quarterback position. Injuries to Adrian Martinez, and a lack of a viable backup, cost NU a bowl game in 2018 and depth has always been an issue.

Frost has said before that he would like to carry five scholarship quarterbacks and right now, Nebraska football has just three. So two from the transfer portal isn’t a big stretch.

And while Thompson has two years left to play, Purdy would have four and the former four-star recruit could be a great fit for the system Mark Whipple wants to run. Whipple even visited Purdy while he was still the OC with Pitt and Nebraska also offered Purdy recently too.

A competition between Thompson, Purdy, and Logan Smothers would certainly make the room stronger next season. It would also add vital depth so one injury doesn’t cripple the team.
