3. LSU

Joe Burrow showed what an elite quarterback can do at LSU and even though the Tigers struggled last season and fired their head coach, there is still plenty of talent down there in Baton Rouge.

Last season, LSU was fifth in Bud Elliott’s list of national title contenders with a 67 percent blue-chip ratio. LSU also lost former starting quarterback Max Johnson to Texas A&M.

Now, I know what you’re going to say LSU fans: What about Walker Howard?

I know that Brian Kelly danced his butt off in order to get Howard to sign with the Tigers and he’s definitely the future. But is he ready to play as well next season as Williams? Are three years of Walker Howard possibly starting better than two seasons of Williams?

Howard is projected by 247 sports as a day-two draft pick. But Williams? Many believe he will be the No. 1 overall pick and last season at Oklahoma, he was dynamic. He’s gone through the growing pains and adjusted to college football.

LSU could certainly play Howard next season and still have a really good team, but if it landed Williams, Kelly’s Tigers could contend for the College Football Playoff.

That’s the choice college football teams are now having to weigh with the transfer portal and you can bet almost every coaching staff in America has at least discussed Williams.
