Adrian Martinez: From Nebraska to Kansas State
Adrian Martinez transferring from Nebraska was a bit of a surprise. Rarely does a quarterback who set the number of records Martinez did at a school transfer. The former Tennessee recruit is Nebraska’s all-time leader in total yards from scrimmage and led the Huskers in passing and rushing yards this season.
Martinez was a four-star recruit from Clovis West HS in Fresno, California. According to 247sports, Martinez was the seventh-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country. Martinez was Frost’s prize recruit from his first-class at Nebraska.
Martinez spurned Tennessee to sign with the Huskers.
Did Martinez transfer because Frost fired many of his assistants, including quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco who worked closely with Martinez.
Martinez will spend his final season in the “Little Apple” Manhattan, Kansas. The graduate transfer is instantly the best offensive player next to running back Deuce Vaughn. The Fresno, California native is an excellent fit for the Wildcats’ offensive system.
Martinez’s ability to run makes the Wildcats’ running game dangerous. Skylar Thompson was solid but not the run threat Martinez can be. Martinez is one of the few running quarterbacks that can score from anywhere on the field.
Martinez, along with Vaughn, is a formidable one-two punch in the running game. This transfer is a good fit for both Kansas State and Martinez.
