Quinn Ewers: From Ohio State to Texas

Five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers committed to Texas just to de-commit and sign with Ohio State. It was an interesting move considering the existing quarterback room in Columbus. After a few meaningless hand-offs, Ewers has signed with Texas through the portal.

Ewers reclassified and was the number one ranked player (regardless of position) in the country in 2021. Technically, this should have been Ewers’ freshman year but reclassified to take advantage of NIL money on the table.

Now Ewers is back in Austin looking to make the Longhorns nationally relevant for the first time since Vince Young donned the burnt orange and white.

Ewers can have a Trevor Lawrence-like effect on the Texas Longhorns program. The Southlake, Texas native has all the tools to lead the Longhorns to national prominence once again. Ewers has elite arm talent and superior mobility.

What has impressed most scouts about Ewers is his feel and awareness for the game from the pocket for someone his age. Even with all of those qualities, Ewers is an unknown.

Ewers did not get a senior year after reclassification and missed six games of the 2020 season due to injury. So, he has not played a ton of football. Ewers is still a bit raw but has all the assets Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian would want in a prospect.
