Dillon Gabriel: From UCF to UCLA to Oklahoma

In a stunning turn of events, former UCf quarterback Dillon Gabriel has flipped from UCLA to Oklahoma. Gabriel was an excellent fit for the Bruins. With Dorian Thompson-Robinson likely moving on after this season, Gabriel was a perfect system fit for the Bruins.

Gabriel had an outstanding career at UCF, peaking in 2020 when he threw for over 3,500 yards, 32 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. Gabriel played in only three games this season before breaking his collarbone.

After putting his name in early November, Gabriel became one of the most wanted players in the college football transfer portal.

Transfer players do not sign anything, and since he hadn’t officially enrolled at UCLA, Gabriel had the flexibility to make this move. The question is, why flip?

Gabriel flipped to the Sooners the same day Caleb Williams put his name in the transfer portal. Transferring to Norman also reunites Gabriel with offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby, the quarterback’s coach at UCF when Gabriel was there.

There are no guarantees for Gabriel in Oklahoma. Williams could return to Normal, and putting his name in the portal is just a chance to see what’s out there. Gabriel gives the Sooners a proven veteran quarterback who can come in and play right away.
