College Football: Top 6 transfer portal running back additions for 2022
By Dante Pryor
1. Zach Evans: from TCU to Mississippi
The Mississippi Rebels landed the crown jewel of the transfer portal running backs when Zach Evans decided to take his talents to Oxford. Evans was outstanding for the Horned Frogs, a five-star recruit until an injury derailed his season.
Evans is a devastating runner with a rare combination of size and speed, which runs violently between the tackles with the ability to run past defensive backs and safeties in the open field. This season, Evans showed the ability to catch the football out of the backfield with ten receptions.
The Texas native has excellent body balance and does not go down on initial contact. He absorbs contact through the line of scrimmage and gets to top speed relatively quickly after getting to the second level. Evans can bang for short yardage, initiate contact or make defenders miss.
Head coach Lane Kiffin has to be excited to sign a player of this caliber. No matter who plays quarterback for the Rebels next season, Evans is the centerpiece of the offense next season, with the passing game complementing what Evans does.
Evans initially was supposed to sign with Georgia but was released from his NLI and signed with the Horned Frogs.
