4. Jacob Cowing: from Texas-El Paso to Arizona

Former UTEP wide receiver is the epitome of self-made. Cowing’s only Division I offer was from UTEP. Cowing made the most of his opportunity in El Paso, improving every year he was on campus. Cowing was the focal point of the Miners’ offense this season with over 1300 yards receiving.

This offseason, Cowing became one of the most coveted transfer portal wide receivers. After receiving offers from Oregon, Florida, and LSU, Cowing decided to return home and play for the Arizona Wildcats.

It’s ironic Cowing signed with the Wildcats. Maricopa, Cowing’s hometown, is closer to Tempe (where Arizona State is located) than Tucson. However, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Sun Devils and the Wildcats, and head coach Jedd Fisch is building something in Arizona.

This offseason, the Wildcats suffered heavy attrition in its receiver room and responded by recruiting the position heavily, including signing their highest-rated recruit in school history Tetairoa McMillan.

Cowing gives the Wildcats an established big-play receiver to aid their youth movement. He is part of the best receiver room the Wildcats have had in some time. Fisch has to settle the quarterback position; having great wide receivers could be the key to resolving the position.
