Texas Football: Way-too-Early Game-by-Game Predictions for 2022
After beating Texas Tech in a mild shootout, Texas will return home to face West Virginia. This is going to be a week before the big rivalry game with Oklahoma, so Texas is going to have to avoid looking ahead and stay focused on the Mountaineers. Texas was not able to beat West Virginia in last year’s matchup, so revenge is going to be on the mind of the Longhorns.
West Virginia is going to look different on offense than they did last season. New offensive coordinator Graham Harrell is going to be bringing the air raid offense to Morgantown and try to breathe life into what was a bad offense in 2021. Uncertainty at quarterback is going to prevent West Virginia from going on the road and pulling an upset though.
Final Score: Texas 31, West Virginia 20 (4-1, 2-0)
Nobody is going to forget last year’s rendition of the Red River Rivalry. In one of the best games of the 2021 college football, Oklahoma overcame a large deficit to come back and defeat Texas football in what was an absolutely wild game. As college football fans, we can only hope that the 2022 edition of the rivalry game is going to be just as good as last year’s.
One thing is for certain, Oklahoma is going to look much different than they did last year. With Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC, Oklahoma went out and hired Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables to replace him. The Sooners are going to be missing a lot of key players from last year’s team and might not be ready to be a playoff contender under Venables just yet. Texas wins this game and takes an early lead in the Big 12.
Final Score: Texas 38, Oklahoma 34 (5-1, 3-0)
