Kentucky Football: Way-Too-Early Game-by-Game Predictions
By Kathryn Rose
After they get the Gators, Kentucky gets what will surely be their easiest game of the season in FCS Youngstown State. Kentucky has had issues with FCS teams before, as they trailed at one point against Chattanooga last year. However, this Youngstown State team finished dead last in the Missouri Valley Football Conference last season, so Kentucky should cruise and empty the benches early.
Final score: Kentucky 45, Youngstown State 6 (Kentucky goes to 3-0, 1-0 in conference play)
In the final game of September, Northern Illinois comes to Lexington. This game could end up being a problem for Kentucky, as NIU is the defending MAC champion, and had a very young roster last year. With those young players stepping up under third-year head coach Thomas Hammock, and with signal-caller Rocky Lombardi back for another year, the Huskies can threaten almost anyone. Don’t be surprised at all if NIU upsets Kentucky, but the Wildcats should have enough to hold back the Huskies.
Final score: Kentucky 31, Northern Illinois 27 (Kentucky goes to 4-0, 1-0 in conference play)
