Kentucky Football: Way-Too-Early Game-by-Game Predictions
By Kathryn Rose
The first day of October sees Kentucky go to Oxford to play Ole Miss. Ole Miss has lost a ton of players from their 2021 squad, but they’ve been very active in the transfer portal, landing eight out of the nation’s 100 top transfers, including former USC quarterback Jaxson Dart. Under Lane Kiffin, the Rebels have played with a backyard style that is fun to watch, but also hard for opposing defenses to deal with. Look for Ole Miss to simply outgun the Wildcats.
Final score: Ole Miss 38, Kentucky 20 (Kentucky goes to 4-1, 1-1 in conference play)
Up next for the Wildcats is South Carolina in Lexington. Kentucky won this game 16-10 last year in Columbia, but the Gamecocks have a brand new weapon this year in Spencer Rattler at quarterback. Rattler joins a team that overachieved by a good bit last year, as Carolina posted a winning record at 7-6 with not a lot of talent behind it. Shane Beamer definitely has this Gamecocks program heading on the right track, but in Lexington, it’s a ‘Cats victory.
Final score: Kentucky 28, South Carolina 20 (Kentucky goes to 5-1, 2-1 in conference play)
