Notre Dame football signed the No. 7 recruiting class in the country for 2022 and we’re going to take a look at a few superlatives.

Marcus Freeman probably didn’t expect to be piecing together his first recruiting class as a head coach in 2022, but Brian Kelly’s sudden departure led to that.

The new Notre Dame football coach landed the No. 7 recruiting class in the country showing that he has what it takes to dominate on the trail. He’s going to be a problem as a head coach for years and his recruiting chops are only going to improve Notre Dame nationally.

Let’s dive into some 2022 class superlatives for Notre Dame.

Biggest surprise commit: Aamil Wagner

Early in the fall, Aamil Wagner looked like he was destined to be a Kentucky Wildcat. The four-star offensive tackle from Ohio was looking like a strong lean to pick the Wildcats in September after an unofficial visit, even earning a Billy Kurelic crystal ball to Kentucky.

Then a couple of months later, Wagner committed to Notre Dame.

I’m not even going to lie, I did not see this coming and I don’t think anyone outside of South Bend did. The Fighting Irish were able to away him away from Kentucky and the SEC and while this was a surprise, it was also a massive recruiting victory for Brian Kelly.

Even bigger of a victory was Marcus Freeman retaining him after Kelly left.

This was definitely a great surprise for Notre Dame.
